Let's Do That Again!

This year's Memorial Day weekend started out very easy going with no specific plans in mind. About midway through Sat. we began reminiscing about our first (and only) real camping trip we had taken a year earlier. The kids kept commenting on how much fun that was and said they wished we could do it again. It didn't take us long to decide that there was no reason why we couldn't. We went to church the next morning and then came home and loaded everything up and headed to the camp ground.

We were even able to talk our friend Shawn into joining us.

Buster seemed happy to be back at the campgrounds too! He must have learned his lesson last year though, because this year he stayed in the canoe for the entire trip.

I didn't get a picture of it...but thanks to our table grill and rice cooker, cooking Korean food was again one of the highlights of our camping experience.
The marshmallows and roasting sticks were a gift from our campground neighbors as a thank you gift to Clayton for rescuing them.
We were just setting up our tent when Shawn noticed that the two ladies in the lot next to us were trying to get into their car. We quickly realized that they were deaf as they were using sign language to communicate with each other. Shawn went over to see if he could help. They had locked their keys in the car and were trying to use tongs to get it unlocked. I noticed that the window was open a crack and went over to see if I could fit my arm through. I couldn't but thought Clayton might be able to. Sure enough he slid his arm right in and pulled the lock button up. He was the hero! The ladies were extremely grateful! Clayton was very proud! Unfortunately that wasn't the first or the last of our neighbors' trials that weekend. We later learned that they had left the lights on in their car the night before and had run the battery down. Then later that afternoon they told us they were going on a canoe ride. When it started getting dark and we still hadn't seen them come back Shawn went to the main office to check on them. The park owners sent out a boat to look for them and found them stranded along the river. They had gotten lost and it was dark and they didn't know which way to go to get back to camp. Camping next to them made us feel a little less amateur!
But we're still not pro enough to remember all of the essentials! The kids and I played Doodle Dice while Daddy ran back home to get a couple of things we had forgotten. That's the beauty of camping close to home.
We really had a TREE-mendous time!
