The Baconator!

This is Clayton's first year in Cub Scouts and was his first year to build his very own pine wood derby car.  However, he has spent several years watching his older sister build her cars for AWANA and Daddy build cars for the teacher competition at his school.  He knew from the beginning that he wanted his car to be creative.  I have to admit that when he told us he wanted his car to look like a piece of bacon we were skeptical.  But he insisted on the design and Daddy helped him carry it through.  He even came up with a name for it on his own!

Doesn't he look handsome in his scout uniform?
He was hoping to win a prize for creativity...but was beat out by the lego car(2 below his in the picture).  To our surprise The Baconator didn't do too badly for speed.  It sizzled down the track taking 1st and 2nd in its' heats...but didn't move on to win a trophy.
It was fun hearing the kids chanting, "BACON! BACON!" as it raced.
It was a really long day with lots of technical difficulties.  In the end it seemed like what the boys enjoyed most was racing their cars around the bleachers with each other after the official races were over.
